Biography

Bush acquired property in Maldon, including a messuage and six shops, in 1376. He probably lived by trade, and in June 1380 he obtained a pardon of outlawry for not appearing in the courts at Westminster to answer for a debt of £28. Shortly before his third Parliament, in October 1383, he was party to recognizances for £100 sealed in Chancery. In January 1389 he was elected a supervisor of repairs to Hey bridge, Maldon.2

In 1393 Bush was attached in Colchester borough court to reply to a charge of selling a pipe of wine stored for another man in his warehouse, but he successfully pleaded that the wine had not been sold but stolen. He is last recorded in December 1398 standing surety in Chancery for Richard Bush, junior, of West Mersea, who was probably his son.3
