Biography

A resident burgess, Cryps paid 1s. towards the poll tax of 1379, at which time he employed two servants, and had already set up in business as a fishmonger. In October 1382 he was a surety for the attendance in Parliament of Walter Joop, and in November 1384 acted similarly for John Leche. His appointment as a tax collector in Wiltshire in November 1386 took place on the last day of the Parliament he was then attending. He appeared as a witness to a Marlborough deed in April 1389, and in January 1394 he again stood surety for the appearance of a local parliamentary burgess, John Curteys I. He is not recorded after his own election to the Parliament of 1399.
