Biography

Dovere appears as a witness to deeds at Weymouth in 1367 (during his bailiffship) and 1372. He is recorded in September 1379 as shipping 23 cloths from Melcombe Regis on La Marie of Dartmouth. His holdings in Weymouth included a plot on the quay, acquired from the executors of Walter Taunton in 1368, and a tenement in St. Nicholas Street which he conveyed to John Brond† 20 years later. In 1395 he was outlawed by the court of common pleas for failing to answer a suit of debt brought by one John Trok. A burgage which he had held jointly with his wife was forfeited to the Crown and subsequently, in 1400, granted to Walter Cokkys for an annual rent of 13s.4d.2 Whether Dovere was then still living is not known.
