Biography

Ferrour was among the jurors present at a view of frankpledge held by the mayor of Bedford in 1391. Ten years later he was himself ordered to appear before the court and answer charges of trespass brought against him by Roger Tunstall* and Ralph Pyrewelle*. In 1414 his widowed mother settled on him the messuage in Bedford which she had bought two years previously; he, in turn, agreed to let her occupy the principal room there for the rest of her life and to supply her with food, drink, fire and other necessities, including a new gown every two years. He undertook further to find a chaplain to celebrate mass in St. Paul’s church for the souls of his parents. Although he himself sat only once in the Commons, Ferrour attested the indentures for the borough elections to all of the Parliaments summoned between 1420 and 1437.2
