Collector, customs and subsidies, Melcombe Regis, Weymouth and adjacent ports 29 Nov. 1419-c.1422.

Biography

Nothing is known of Provost beyond his appointment as customs collector at Melcombe Regis and other ports nearby. Since this post was held from 1417 to 1427 by Walter Reson, who sat for Wareham in every other Parliament between 1419 and 1426, it might be suspected that Provost was an alias used by Reson. That this was not, in fact, the case is indicated by the nomination of Walter Provost and Walter Reson as joint customers in November 1419 and July 1421.
