Biography

John may have been a kinsman of Edmund Pyne* of Upton Pyne, but he himself held property at Bradwell in West Down and East Lyn in Lynton, in the north of the county. In July 1411 the justices of assize were ordered to postpone hearing a suit brought by him against Joan, widow of Robert Yeo, relating to his landed holdings, and the case was again postponed a year later on petition of John Yeo until his return from service overseas. It is possible that he also owned premises in Barnstaple.1 He is last recorded on being mustered at Southampton in May 1420 as a member of the retinue of the Devonshire landowner Sir Thomas Carew.2
