Biography

Sargor was concerned primarily with local affairs. He and his wife were in possession of property in Taunton by Easter 1394, when they conveyed to the vicar of the church of St. Mary Magdalen a messuage and five acres of land there and in Shireford. Engaged in the local cloth trade, Sargor was assessed for alnage on 68 ‘dozens’ sold between 1395 and 1397. He served as a juror in November 1400 at an inquest held in Taunton concerning the goods of the late King, Richard II, and on occasion he attested deeds in the town. He was among the delegates sent to the shire court to bear witness to Taunton’s electoral returns to the Parliaments of 1407, May 1413, April 1414, 1420 and December 1421.2
