Biography

Between 1410 and 1422 Sharp owned land at a number of places in east Sussex, on which as a Portsman he was able to claim exemption from taxation assessed on their yearly value (over 35s.). He was among the barons from Hastings who sat on a Cinque Ports’ jury at Dover in May 1411 which indicted William Long II* of Rye for piracy. At an unknown date in 1416 or 1417 he was held in custody by judgement of the court at New Romney, until a writ of venire facias called him into a higher court. His alleged offence is not recorded.3
