Biography

Terry served on the jury at Arundel required in October 1397 to provide information about the forfeited possessions of Richard, earl of Arundel, who, recently condemned for treason by judgement of Parliament, had been executed. He himself had taken up arms in the cause of the earl and his fellow Lords Appellant in the winter of 1387-8, and now, fearful of the consequences, he sued for pardon from Richard II. Terry was a tenant of the earl’s in a number of properties, including four messuages in Arundel and 12½ acres of land at Offham, for which he paid annual rents of 11s.7d. In 1423 Richard and Agnes Stygaunt confirmed him in the same and in additional holdings at Arundel, Offham and South Stoke.
