Biography

Vinter appears to have been a wealthy man who, during the 1380s, was buying property on a fairly large scale. In 1385, for example, he purchased a messuage and its appurtenances in Guildford; and two years later he acquired another messuage and 56 acres of land in Bromley from John and Alice Person. It was, however, as a trustee of John Stoughton the elder of Guildford, rather than on his own account, that he appeared among the defendants in an action of novel disseisin brought at the local assizes in September 1396 by Thomas Semere of London.1
