Biography

John Pethebridge was a merchant. His election with John Connock to the third Parliament of Mary’s reign complied with her directive for the return of residents. Neither man was found to be present when the House was called early in January 1555, and for this dereliction Pethebridge was informed against in the King’s bench during the following Easter term: a writ of venire facias was sent to the sheriff of Cornwall, but no further process was taken against him. The last glimpse of Pethebridge is four years later when in 1559 he contributed 8s.4d. to the subsidy on the basis of goods worth £5.
