This Member remains unidentified and his return for New Shoreham a matter for speculation. He may have been one of the Cheshire family, perhaps the 4th s. (bap. 1570) of William Booth, who became a soldier in Holland. Or he may have been the Robert Booth from Cheshire who matriculated at St. John’s, Cambridge 1565, BA 1571, fellow 1573, MA 1574.1

A Robert Booth wrote, 18 Aug. 1603, to Michael Hickes inviting him and his wife in the name of Booth’s ‘lord and lady’ to a stag hunt at Harold’s Park. This estate was owned at this time by Edward Denny, and if this letter indicates that Booth was in Denny’s service, it provides some explanation for his return for New Shoreham, Denny being of sufficient standing to carry an election there through a friend at court.2
