Biography
Button evidently secured his return at Ludgershall through his family’s local standing, Wilcot lying some 12 miles from the borough. If, as seems possible, he was in London at the time, the borough would have saved itself some expense by returning him. In 1589 he was a candidate for the bar at Gray’s Inn, when his application was disallowed. His will, made 6 Aug. 1610, was proved 13 Oct. of that year. His brothers, Sir Ambrose and Henry, were to receive £10 apiece, and £5 13s.4d. was bequeathed to his sister, Mrs. Dorothy Drake. Provision was made for a few servants and 20s. set aside for the poor of Woodborough. As executor, he appointed his brother Edward.
