Biography

The most likely John Cooke to have sat for Lostwithiel in 1597 was a relative of the Godolphins, a family important in both the stannaries and the duchy of Cornwall. Apart from the entry in the heralds’ visitations, which shows that he was still living in 1620, when his eldest son was 14, nothing is known of him.

Vis. Cornw. (Harl. Soc. ix), 44, 82; Vivian, Vis. Cornw. 99.
