Biography

The only known character sketch of Michell, a scrivener, is provided by one Thomas Eton, a skinner, in 1563:

never poor man’s friend but always a mortal foe to all poor men and hath the goodwill of no poor men within Norwich ... if there were no man alive but Mr. Mychells I could find it in my heart to be his hangman.

Returned for the city in 1563, he was given leave of absence ‘for his affairs’ on 16 Mar. He received wages of 2s. a day. He died later in 1563, his will being proved in the Norwich consistory court.
