Biography

St. Aubyn’s father, ‘a merry, facetious, delightful character’, was over 80 when he died in 1626, so that there is little to say about St. Aubyn himself in this period. His family was related to the Arundells, Carews, Carnsews and Godolphins, and its local standing was quite sufficient to account for St. Aubyn’s return for St. Ives, some ten miles from Clowance. St. Aubyn made his will on 4 Feb. 1637 and was dead by the early summer of that year. The will was proved 5 July.
