Biography

There were two namesakes, uncle and nephew, either of whom might have sat for Orford in 1563. The first named below is the more likely on grounds of age. The family was Catholic, the best known being Francis Yaxley the consipator, and the nephew became an outright recusant, which, however, would not have prevented him being returned in 1563. So far as is known the MP took no part in the proceedings of the Parliament.

The MP was EITHER

2nd s. of Anthony Yaxley, Suff. by Elizabeth, da. of John Garneys of Kenton, Suff.

In 1586 he sold the manor of Blowfield, Suffolk, to an Edward Grimston, perhaps the Ipswich and Orford MP of that name whose mother, Anne Garneys, was Yaxley’s aunt. It may even have been the Grimstons who had Yaxley (or his nephew) returned in 1563. Yaxley was never a j.p., and it is not known whether he married or when he died.

OR

b. 1546, 1st s. of Richard Yaxley of Mellis, Suff. by Mary, da. of Robert Stokes. educ. G. Inn 1566. m. Eve, da. of Sir Henry Bedingfield.

Yaxley was a ward of Sir Nicholas Bacon until he came of age in 1567. His will was proved in 1590.
