Biography

Eversfield’s great-grandfather acquired considerable estates in Sussex about the middle of the 16th century. His father and elder brother both represented Hastings, the latter being disabled in 1644, and compounding for his estates for £800. Eversfield’s name appears on the list of proposed knights of the Royal Oak. His estates, valued at £600 p.a., lay entirely in East Sussex, and he must have owed his seat at Bramber to his wealthy younger brother John and his cousins, the Gorings. He made no speeches in the Convention and served on no committees. He was presumably the ‘Mr Ersfield, a Sussex gentleman’ who stood for Rye in 1667. He preferred a bill in Chancery on 22 Apr. 1675. His will was proved on 8 Nov. 1676.4
