Biography

Noel was returned for Rutland as a Tory in 1685, and listed by Danby among the Opposition. An inactive Member of James II’s Parliament, he was appointed only to the committee of elections and privileges. He was probably removed from the lieutenancy with the rest of his family later in the reign. He is not known to have stood again after the Revolution, and was buried at Exton on 28 July 1690. His son succeeded Wriothesley Baptist Noel as 3rd Earl of Gainsborough two months later, and his grandson sat for the county as a Tory from 1734 till his death.
