Biography

Hungerford was brought in on the family interest at Calne in 1695, shortly after leaving the Middle Temple. He was forecast as likely to support the Court in the division of 31 Jan. 1696 over the proposed council of trade. He signed the Association, but voted on 25 Nov. against the attainder of Sir John Fenwick†. Generally an inactive Member, he was not even appointed to any of the more important committees.

Hungerford died on 23 Apr. 1698, aged 24. A funeral cortège numbering more than 200 assembled on the Downs to accompany the coffin to Bremhill church, where his family set up a marble monument in his memory.2
