Biography

Wallop had represented Whitchurch as a Whig in every Parliament since 1679. He was returned unopposed for the borough in 1690, when he was classed as a Whig by Lord Carmarthen (Sir Thomas Osborne†). In September 1691 he successfully petitioned the Treasury for permission to recover several wrecks on the coast of Leinster, the Irish province to which he had been appointed vice-admiral. He died on 28 Dec. 1691, his estates eventually passing to his nephew John Wallop†, who was chosen knight of the shire for Hampshire in 1715 and raised to the peerage in 1720 as Viscount Lymington.3
