Biography

Descended from a London alderman who purchased Albyns c.1635, Abdy was returned unopposed for his county as a Tory, voting against the Administration in every recorded division. He was to have taken part in a Jacobite rising in Essex, planned to coincide with a French landing in February 1744,1 was one of the six Tory Members to whom the military details of the scheme were communicated,2 and was referred to by the Pretender as one of his principal advisers in England.3 He died 27 Aug. 1748.
