Biography

A practising lawyer,1 and chief agent of Brownlow Cecil, Earl of Exeter, Barbor bought the manor of Somerford in 1734 for £5,400.2 He was returned for Stamford in 1747 on Lord Exeter’s interest, but is described by the 2nd Lord Egmont in his electoral survey c.1749-50 as one of ‘Lord Gower’s creatures’. He died 22 July 1761.
