Biography

A staunch Whig, belonging to a junior branch of an ancient Shropshire family, Corbet was unopposed in his first two elections for the county. Re-elected after a stiff contest in 1715, he voted with the Government in all recorded divisions and in 1720 was rewarded with a place in the Household. Defeated for the county in 1722, he never stood again, but retained his office until 1735 when he exchanged it for a place at the customs to make way for a Member of the House of Commons.1 He died 3 Oct. 1740.
