Biography

Cox came of a Gloucestershire family, who by the end of the seventeenth century had branches also in Herefordshire and Wiltshire. Buying Basset Down from the Yorke family in 1709,1 he subsequently acquired by marriage the manor of Ston Easton in Somerset. Classed as a Tory at George I’s accession, he was elected for Milborne Port without a contest, voting against the septennial bill. He died 10 May 1717.
