Biography

Dodd came of an old Cheshire family. His father, a successful lawyer, who had acquired properties in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire through his marriage, purchased another estate at Hillingdon, near Uxbridge.1 Soon after succeeding to his father’s fortune he contested Wells in the Whig interest at a by-election in 1717. Defeated at the poll but seated on petition, he voted with the Government. He died intestate 25 Aug. 1719, his estates passing through his mother to John Dodd, his first cousin once removed.
