Biography

Duke came of an old Suffolk family, who bought Benhall, not far from Orford, at the end of the sixteenth century. His father was mayor of Orford 1677 and M.P. for the borough 1679-81, 1689, and 1697-8. He himself was brought in for it as a Tory at a by-election during the last months of the Parliament but did not stand again. He died 25 Aug. 1732.
