Biography

Returned as a Tory for Hereford in 1741, Hopton voted consistently against the Government. On the opposition motion of 21 Jan. 1742 to set up a secret committee to inquire into the war, he was ‘carried in with crutches’.1 He did not stand again, dying 24 Apr. 1754.
