Biography

Hyde, whose father was first cousin to Lord Chancellor Clarendon, was a High Church Tory and member of the October Club. In 1721 his name was sent to the Pretender as a probable supporter in the event of a rising.2 He was returned five times for Hindon, where he had an interest, and seven times for the county, though on the last occasion too ‘ancient and infirm’ to appear at the election,3 dying ten days later, 20 Apr. 1722.4
