Biography

Mackenzie succeeded his father as Member for Cromartyshire in 1729, voting with the Administration on the army in 1732, but against them on the excise bill in 1733 and the repeal of the Septennial Act in 1734. He did not stand again. Becoming bankrupt, he sold the estate of Cromarty in 1741. During the Forty-five he remained loyal to the Government, although his cousin, the 3rd Earl of Cromartie, joined the rising. He died 20 May 1748.
