Biography

Of a junior branch of the Murrays of Blackbarony,1 who had represented Peeblesshire in the pre-Union Parliament of Scotland, Alexander Murray was returned unopposed as a Whig for the county in 1715 and again in 1741. Voting with the Government in all recorded divisions of both Parliaments, he was classed as ‘Granville’ in 1746. He died in September 1755.
