Biography

Purvis was the protégé of Sir Charles Wager, under whom he served in the West Indies and at Gibraltar and after whom he named his eldest son. Returned for Aldeburgh, where he managed the Admiralty interest, he voted with the Government in all recorded divisions till his death 8 Mar. 1741.
