Biography
The son of a wealthy London clothier,1 Webster purchased the estate of Copped Hall for over £20,000 from Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset, in 1700; Battle Abbey from Anthony Browne, 6th Viscount Montagu, in 1721;2 and property including several burgages at East Grinstead.3 Returned as a Whig for Colchester in 1722, he did not stand again, dying 30 May 1751.
