Biography

Thomas Wyndham belonged to the Kentsford branch of the Wyndhams and was last of the line of Tale. Returned unopposed on the government interest1 for Poole at a by-election in 1732, probably by the influence of his first cousin, Bubb Dodington, then a lord of the Treasury, he was also successful there in 1734 but did not stand again. In Parliament he voted for the Administration in all recorded divisions till Dodington went into opposition in 1740. Described as a ‘misanthrope’,2 Wyndham was Dodington’s frequent companion at the villa of La Trappe, in Hammersmith, which he inherited from him and where he died, 19 Sept. 1777.
