Eton 1753; Grand Tour.1 m. 25 May 1765, Lady Harriet Stewart, da. of Alexander, 6th Earl of Galloway [S], 2s. 3da. suc. to estates of Charles Gerard, 2nd Earl of Macclesfield, and Digby Gerard, 5th Baron Gerard, on d. of paternal gd.-m. 1744; to estates of his gd.-fa. Edward Spencer 1771; and his nephew as 9th Duke of Hamilton and 6th Duke of Brandon 2 Aug. 1799.

Biography

Hamilton was elected for Lancashire without a contest. He voted for Wilkes’s expulsion, 3 Feb. 1769, but against the seating of Luttrell, 15 Apr. 1769, against Government on the Middlesex election, on 9 Jan. 1770, and against the Spanish convention, 13 Feb. 1771. He does not appear to have spoken in the House, and the circumstances of his leaving Parliament are not known.

He died 16 Feb. 1819.
