Biography

The Hills of Court of Hill had a common ancestor with the Hills of Hawkestone temp. Henry VI, and were settled at Court of Hill since the 16th century.1 Mrs. Philip Lybbe Powys wrote in 1771, after a visit to Court of Hill:2

Their manner of living ... is always in the superb style of ancient hospitality, only their winters are spent in London. You see generosity blended with every elegance of fashionable taste; but they have a vast fortune and only two children, both girls ...

The circumstances of Hill’s election for Leominster are unascertained. There is no record of any vote or speech of his in the House.  He died 23 Aug. 1776.
