Biography
Lock’s antecedents are obscure but by 1754 he had established himself as a successful London merchant. In 1754 he was returned unopposed for Grimsby. In Dupplin’s list of 1754 he was classed as a Government supporter, but he voted against the Address, 13 Nov. 1755, and against the plate bill, 17 Mar. 1756. He applied for £20,000 in the loan of 1756.1 There is no record of Lock’s having spoken in the House during the Parliament of 1754-61. He did not stand at the general election of 1761 and died 21 Oct. 1761.
