Biography

Mitford had already made a name for himself with his History of Greece when in 1785 he was returned for Newport on the interest of his cousin the 1st Duke of Northumberland. His only recorded vote before 1790 was with Opposition on the Duke of Richmond’s fortifications plan, 27 Feb. 1786. Two speeches of his are reported before 1790, both in support of the militia.

He died 8 Feb. 1827.
