Biography

Turner was returned for Athlone after the seat had been offered to the government by its patron William Handcock*. The chief secretary Sir Arthur Wellesley, in his memorandum on Irish Members, simply noted: ‘I know nothing of Mr Turner, and must refer to the Treasury’. He supported all three motions hostile to the Duke of York, 15-17 Mar. 1809, but voted with government on the address, 23 Jan., the inquiry into the Scheldt expedition, 30 Mar. 1810, and the Regency, 1 Jan. 1811. He is not known to have spoken in debate. Turner died 1 Feb. 1829.
