Biography

At the general election following his final return to England from Madras after long service as chief engineer, Ross came in for Horsham on Viscountess Irwin’s interest, in succession to Sir John Macpherson, who had also served in Madras. No speech or vote of his is known. By his will, dated 16 Apr. 1795, he left legacies in cash totalling £32,000 to his children, as well as £1,000 p.a. to his wife–who, however, predeceased him.2 He died 24 Aug. 1804.
