Biography
William may have been the son of the Leominster Member of 1368, 1369, 1371, 1372 and 1378, who shared the same name. As William Taverner ‘junior’ in January 1383 he joined with other Leominster burgesses in entering into a bond for £20 to ensure loyal service to the abbot of Reading on the part of the newly-appointed under bailiff of the town, John Bradfield†. By the end of the century he was actively engaged in the local cloth industry. At some point during the reign of Henry IV, Taverner conveyed property in the town to Alice, wife of John Monmouth, for term of her life. He is known to have attended the parliamentary elections held at Leominster in 1417 and 1419.
