Biography
Lord Charles Douglas was the son of the beautiful Duchess of Queensberry, who was long excluded from court for her indiscreet support of the poet Gay in 1729. She obtained permission to appear at court in 1747, when her eldest son was appointed to have a regiment in the Dutch service1 and Lord Charles was returned for the family seat of Dumfriesshire. Re-elected in 1754 as a government supporter, he died 24 Oct. 1756.
